About The Position

Fairview is seeking a Pulmonary Function Specialist to join their team at M Health Fairview Clinics & Surgery Center in Minneapolis. This 0.75 FTE position (60 hours per two-week pay period) is scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM. This role is primarily based at the M Health Fairview Clinics & Surgery Center, with the opportunity to provide coverage at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital and M Health Fairview Clinics and Surgery Center - Maple Grove as needed to support departmental operations. The Pulmonary Function Specialist is responsible for providing diagnostic and therapeutic services as prescribed by a physician. The Pulmonary Function Specialist (PFS) has responsibility for performing routine and advanced pulmonary function testing and acting as a resource for these procedures in the Pulmonary Function Laboratory. This position will also be responsible for monitoring workflow and/or may coordinate the daily operation of the Pulmonary Function Laboratory. This position requires excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Laboratory standards associated with safety are constantly followed.

Requirements

  • Have least 62 semester hours in college, including college credit level courses in biology and mathematics
  • CPFT or RPFT/National Board for Respiratory Care within 1 Year
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross) within 30 Days

Nice To Haves

  • A.A./A.S. in Respiratory Care from a JRCRTE accredited program
  • 1 year experience performing pulmonary function testing in a healthcare environment
  • Respiratory Care License/State of MN

Responsibilities

  • Assess data and patient needs and identifies expected outcomes.
  • Obtain patient vials including but not limited to (BP, heart rate, respiratory rate).
  • Analyzes and responds to identify needs and potential risks.
  • Involves the patient, family, and other health care team members in gathering data.
  • Identifies outcomes that are age appropriate, culturally appropriate, realistic, and attainable.
  • Validates outcomes with patient, family, and other health team members.
  • Documents data and identified outcomes.
  • Performs all PFT Testing including Flow Volume Loop, Lung Volume (Plethysmograph), Diffusion Capacity (Single Breath), Bronchodilator Response, Methacholine Challenge, and Exercise Challenge.
  • Responds appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Appraises the validity of test orders and results.
  • Follows established practice and determines and suggests the need for further PFT testing to physicians
  • Follows ATS Guidelines for Pulmonary Function Tests. Evaluates the validity of testing based on calibration and patient efforts.
  • Verifies equipment is in proper working condition
  • Daily calibration of plethysmograph and metabolic cart.
  • Assess calibration to ensure accurate patient testing.
  • Perform troubleshooting repairs of both software and hardware problems.
  • Contact factory service personnel to perform equipment troubleshooting over the phone.
  • Contact bio-medical engineering to coordinate equipment repairs
