About The Position

Princeton University Press (PUP) is offering publishing internships for Fall 2026 through Spring 2027 in various departments including Editorial, Promotions/Publicity, Sales, Academic Marketing, and Integrated Marketing. This program provides students with firsthand experience in the operations of a major university press and insights into all facets of the publishing industry. Interns will be paid $16 per hour. The work location can be hybrid or remote, based on the employee's comfort level and coordination with managers. Applicants must provide a NJ or PA address for employment/payroll processing if working remotely. Internship hours are flexible (15 hours per week), accommodating academic schedules, with start dates in August or September and end dates in May. Specific dates will be coordinated with managers.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Basic familiarity and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Comfortable with internet research.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and attentive to established procedures.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.

  • For 100% remote interns, a NJ or PA address must be provided for employment/payroll purposes.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference for the ability to work a minimum of one full (7.5 hours) day each week or two half days each week to assist with in-office mailing and administrative tasks (for Promotions/Publicity Internship).

Responsibilities

  • Processing advance and fee payments.
  • Drafting and mailing form letters.
  • Ordering complimentary copies of books.
  • Drafting and compiling materials for Editorial Board approval.
  • Mailing manuscripts, page proofs, and books to authors, readers, and endorsers.
  • Reading and evaluating proposals under consideration for publication.
  • Filling out permissions logs and conducting permissions research.
  • Researching and contacting potential peer reviewers.
  • Fulfilling book requests by mailing print copies or emailing digital copies.
  • Conducting research for various books, media, and event partners for publicity purposes.
  • Researching and updating contact information for media, events, and book requests in Salesforce.
  • Creating e-galley pages.
  • Reading and logging book reviews on SharePoint and updating title management system and website with pull quotes.
  • Research and writing marketing and sales copy for outreach to existing and potential customers.
  • Creating marketing materials using email and marketing design programs via SalesForce and HubSpot.
  • Processing book requests for textbook sales.
  • Assisting with faculty list research.
  • Drafting email marketing campaigns for textbooks.
  • Collecting and entering feedback into a Marketing Management System.
  • Proofreading promotional literature for use at PUP booths.
  • Printing, copying, and binding booth materials.
  • Assisting with preparing shipments to conferences.
  • Writing copy and creating social media posts for observances, author events, awards, and other campaigns.
  • Monitoring and reporting social media follower counts.
  • Conducting market research on emerging social trends.
