About The Position

The Innocence Project is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to exonerating innocent individuals through post-conviction DNA testing and advocating for policy reforms to prevent wrongful convictions and improve the criminal justice system. The Innocence Network is a coalition of over 70 independent organizations, educational institutions, and public defender's offices focused on freeing the wrongfully convicted and reforming the justice system. The Network Special Projects Intern will support the operational activities of the Innocence Network, reporting to the Innocence Network Coordinator and collaborating with the Network Support Unit. This internship offers exposure to non-profit management, event planning, and a national network of criminal legal reform organizations. The position is based in the Innocence Project office in lower Manhattan, requiring a minimum commitment of 16 hours per week starting in September 2026, with flexibility in schedule. The intern will also attend and assist with staffing the 2027 Innocence Network Conference in Anaheim, CA, a significant event for innocence attorneys, staff, exonerated individuals, and their families. Travel, accommodation, and meals for the conference will be covered by the Innocence Project. This is not a legal internship and is ideal for individuals pursuing careers in non-profit management.

Requirements

  • A passion for the Network’s work and an interest in organizational development and nonprofit management.
  • Strong organizational and writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Ability to travel to Anaheim, CA, on Tuesday, April 7th and return the following Sunday, April 12th for the Innocence Network Conference.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation and organization of documents and materials for the Innocence Network Conference.
  • Liaise with speakers, assist with social media efforts, and manage registration for the conference.
  • Handle inquiries from conference attendees.
  • Print, assemble, pack, and ship relevant materials to the conference venue.
  • Serve as front-line conference staff, manage priorities, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Assist with the daily maintenance of platforms like Google Groups listservs, Monday.com, and MailChimp to facilitate resource sharing and communication among Network member organizations.
  • Assist with the processing of the Network’s annual membership dues.
  • Conduct research and analysis on various projects, including tracking Network exonerations.
  • Tabulate and analyze conference session evaluation surveys.
  • Support the analysis of the Network’s annual report survey and other Network surveys.
  • Assist with other special projects as needed, including updating the Network Support Unit’s resources.
