About The Position

Sourcebooks is seeking a Publicity and Events Manager – Children’s Books to lead and enhance the author events program. This role involves author relations, bookseller partnerships, media outreach, and program strategy, reporting to the Executive Director of Marketing, Sourcebooks Kids. The ideal candidate is passionate about connecting authors with readers, skilled in managing live and virtual events, and adept at building relationships to create impactful events. This is an exempt salaried position with a salary range of $70,000 - $80,000, with pay determined by factors such as location, experience, training, and education. The position can be hybrid in New York or Naperville, Illinois, or remote based in specific states.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in book publicity, marketing, and author events, or a closely related field.
  • Proven track record of building relationships with booksellers, media, or event venues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including pitching and follow-through.
  • Comfort managing multiple events and timelines simultaneously without losing details.
  • Familiarity with tools and platforms used in book marketing (Bookscan, Monday, social media, design tools like Canva a plus).
  • A collaborative spirit and the ability to work across teams, imprints, and personalities.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for children's books and authors.

  • Familiarity with design tools like Canva.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute events strategy for Sourcebooks Kids authors, including bookstore signings, book festivals, and large-scale multi-author events.
  • Manage full event logistics: venue outreach, booking confirmation, travel coordination, data entry, and author/team communication.
  • Direct PR and social strategy for events, including crafting pitches, securing media coverage, and designing event graphics and assets.
  • Report on event outcomes, such as attendance, on-site sales, and Bookscan POS data.
  • Lead strategy and execution of new initiatives and programming, such as an author school visits program.
