About The Position

Join our team as a Publications Specialist (Magazine Editor) and support a federal transportation research center by owning the full lifecycle of a quarterly national research magazine. You will manage production schedules, coordinate reviews across authors and technical experts, and ensure every issue meets rigorous quality and compliance standards. Position is contingent upon contract award.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism, or a closely related field
  • 7–10 years of progressively responsible editorial and publication management experience

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or equivalent advanced professional certification
  • Proven track record overseeing production of a periodical, ideally a technical or specialty publication

Responsibilities

  • Manage the complete magazine production lifecycle from content intake to final distribution
  • Track article versions and approvals across a multi-stakeholder review chain
  • Provide high-level editorial support and coordinate promotional material development
  • Serve as liaison between writing/author teams and layout/design teams
  • Confirm compliance with GPO Style Manual, Chicago Manual of Style, and Section 508 accessibility standards
  • Secure final sign-offs and manage distribution and archival requirements
