About The Position

UWorld creates learning tools for high-stakes exams, and their visuals are a significant factor in student engagement. This role involves leading a team of designers to create original images for both print and digital formats across a wide range of exams. The position requires a blend of design skills, creative direction, and team leadership, with a strong emphasis on print design, ideally in books or catalogs. The manager will collaborate with writing teams to visualize difficult concepts, guide the design team, and ensure visual consistency across print and digital media.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Arts, Graphic Design, or a related discipline
  • A solid background as a graphic designer or publication designer, with a portfolio showcasing relevant work
  • Hands-on experience designing printed materials (e.g., direct mail, brochures, posters, books, catalogs)
  • Working knowledge of print production, including preparing files for print and achieving consistent, high-quality results
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or managing designers, ideally within a creative department
  • Expert-level skills in Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Experience creating vector graphics, charts, infographics, and simple illustrations
  • Experience creating Presentation Materials like interactive PPTs and Google Slide decks
  • Excellent project management and resource allocation skills
  • Ability to manage, problem-solve, and execute within an established design and visual style
  • Genuine drive to build strong relationships with collaborators inside and outside the department
  • Sharp eye for detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities while keeping the team focused and energized
  • Comfort giving and receiving constructive feedback

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of ADA-compliant, accessible design principles and how to apply them to creative projects
  • Experience with HTML and UI/UX design

Responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire a creative team, supporting and empowering graphic artists through regular one-on-ones, mentoring, and championing their professional growth.
  • Collaborate with writing teams to brainstorm original and memorable ways to illustrate challenging concepts.
  • Guide the team in creating visuals that translate flawlessly to print, considering layout, typography, color, and production-ready files.
  • Maintain the style guide and library of 2D assets to ensure a consistent brand look across print and digital formats.
  • Organize and lead Graphics team meetings and image reviews with content leads, ensuring constructive feedback and project progression.
  • Help maintain an efficient, high-quality production process, tracking and reporting on productivity and quality.
  • Stay informed about all company products, upgrades, and priorities to ensure the team is proactive.
  • Act as a liaison to leadership and other departments to advocate for the team's work and needs.
  • Support recruiting efforts for onsite, offsite, and contract graphic artists.
