About The Position

The State of Ohio, Ohio Department of Public Safety – Ohio State Highway Patrol is seeking a Publication Specialist 1. This role involves providing content for semi-annual display change-outs, researching needed artifacts, and contacting retirees for information or materials. The specialist will create and write content for video displays and information cards, proofread and edit final copy of printed materials, and find and edit photos to accompany displays. Collaboration with Visual Communications for banners, displays, posters, and other visual content is also a key responsibility. Additionally, the role includes preparing artifacts for transport, removing current display items, requesting video copies from the Photo Lab, and reaching out to retirees and other groups to solicit donations of specific artifacts. Requirements

  • Option 1: 2 yrs. training or 2 yrs. experience in preparing various forms of literature for publication (e.g., newswriting; reporting; editing; photojournalism; graphics of communication).
  • Option 2: Completion of undergraduate core program in journalism.
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outline content for semi-annual display change-outs
  • Research needed artifacts
  • Contact retirees for information or materials
  • Create & write content for video displays &/or information cards for each displayed item
  • Proofread & edit final copy of printed materials
  • Find & edit photos to accompany displays
  • Collaborate with Visual Communications to create banners, displays, posters & other visual content
  • Prepare artifacts for transport to the academy
  • Remove current display items & return them to the office
  • Request video copies from the Photo Lab for historical records & for any spotlighted person or family
  • Reach out to retirees & other groups to solicit donations of specific artifacts
