About The Position

The Beaverton Public Works Signs and Markings team is hiring a Public Works Technician to help keep city streets and pathways safe by making, installing, and repairing traffic signs and pavement markings. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in quality work, communicates well with teammates and the public, and wants to help keep Beaverton moving safely and efficiently. This is a full-time, non-exempt, SEIU classified position. The classification is Public Works Technician. The schedule will be Tuesday-Friday, 4 10-hour shifts. There is one vacancy. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, and 3 years of experience in traffic marking and traffic sign fabrication, installation, and maintenance; or An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet the city’s driving standards.
  • Ability to pass reference checks and satisfy the requirements of a background check.
  • Ability to satisfy the requirements of a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Traffic flagger training required within six months of hire.
  • CPR and First Aid training required within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in fabricating traffic control signs, including drawing and cutting out graphics, cutting wood stencils, and applying graphics and reflective sheeting to signs.
  • Install, maintain, repair, and replace traffic control signs on streets and bike paths.
  • Perform traffic marking maintenance.
  • Operate and maintain striping tools and equipment, including the Durastripe applicator, stencils and hand-gun sprayer.
  • Plan and organize the work area before starting each job.
  • Set up traffic control for work sites and perform flagging duties.
  • Complete documentation and sign inventory coding.
  • Track and document the materials used and enter all work orders in Cityworks software.
  • Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and storage areas.
  • Notify residents of scheduled projects.
  • Respond to emergency situations as needed.
  • Treat others with respect and integrity.
  • Support and promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Serve as a model for accomplishing the city's vision and goals.
  • Help create an environment where employees and volunteers produce high quality results.
