About The Position

The Village of Mundelein is seeking a qualified individual for a full-time, entry-level Public Works Maintenance Technician II position in the Streets Division. Under supervision of the Streets Supervisor, Streets Crew Leaders, or other departmental authority, the qualified applicant will be responsible for operating a variety of equipment and trucks utilized in construction, maintenance, and repair activities. The Streets Maintenance Technician II will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of streets, storm drainage systems, pavement and sidewalk repair, landscape restoration, street sign installation, snow and ice control operations, and other divisional functions.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Illinois Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake and tanker endorsements or have the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
  • Ability to use general and specialized tools and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Physical ability to perform the foregoing duties in a satisfactory manner.
  • Ability to work independently in a variety of environmental situations, including indoors, outdoors, and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work for extended hours in all weather conditions and perform physical exertion as necessary in assisting with or completing department activities.
  • Ability to drive and to operate department equipment.
  • Ability to work overtime as directed or needed.
  • Ability to comply with all safety procedures and policies of the Village.

Responsibilities

  • Operate trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Operate trucks and construction or power equipment, such as back-hoe, asphalt roller mowers, tractors, dump truck, snowplow, and other kinds of large equipment.
  • Operate jackhammers, mowers, and other small equipment and tools to maintain streets, storm drainage systems, buildings, and grounds.
  • Perform street maintenance duties such as paving, patching, removal, and curb repairs.
  • Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; takes appropriate actions if necessary and cleans equipment.
  • Control traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas, as required or assigned.
  • Perform snow and ice control measures including salting, plowing, and removal.
  • Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate federal, state, and Village safety and security standards including trenching/excavation and confined space entry.
  • Perform all duties as assigned.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
