About The Position

This is the second of three levels in the Inspection series. Incumbents monitor and inspect public works construction projects, new subdivisions, and private developments. Responsibilities may include inspecting projects and determining compliance with codes, ordinances, and plans; approving completed work; responding to citizen complaints; maintaining operational files; and taking a more active, hands-on role in key responsibilities while delegating tasks appropriately to support accountability, project oversight, and staff development. PLEASE NOTE: THIS POSITION IS ONLY FOR CURRENT CITY OF CLARKSVILLE STREET DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE BEEN IN THEIR CURRENT POSITION FOR AT LEAST SIX MONTHS. NO OTHER APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of construction experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the job's essential duties.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Level 1 Erosion Control Certification
  • Knowledge of inspection principles and methods.
  • Knowledge of construction principles and methods.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of recordkeeping principles.
  • Knowledge of computers and related software applications.
  • Skill in prioritizing and assigning work.
  • Skill in performing inspections of buildings and property.
  • Skill in providing customer service.
  • Skill in reading construction drawings, plans, and/or specifications.
  • Skill in applying applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Skill in maintaining logs and records.
  • Skill in using a computer and related software applications.
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisor, the public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes and assigns work to staff; including tracking adherence to policies and regulations; and trains staff on work methods and procedures.
  • Performs inspections of developments, capital improvement and construction projects, encroachment activities, and other related projects/activities.
  • Determines code compliance.
  • Reviews and approves completed work.
  • Researches and evaluates customer complaints; notifies appropriate individuals of issues; verifies complaints have been resolved.
  • Prepares and maintains construction and building inspection results, files, and logs; prepares related reports.
  • Performs other work as required.
