About The Position

Under general supervision, the purpose of the job is to perform routine maintenance and operational activities associated with streets and drainage systems. This role involves manual and semi-skilled labor tasks related to the construction, repair, and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, and storm drainage systems. The position also includes operating various equipment, performing safety inspections, and interacting with the public.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED equivalent or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Texas Driver’s License.
Must possess a Class B CDL with required endorsements or possess CDL permit or obtain license and endorsements within six (6) months of hire.

Responsibilities

Performs manual and semi-skilled labor tasks related to construction, repair, and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, and storm drainage systems.
Cuts out streets and driveways.
Sets forms for concrete work and finishes concrete work.
Rakes asphalt and performs pothole repairs (hot or cold).
Manually excavates, backfills, and compacts excavated areas to facilitate repair.
Installs erosion control material (riprap, sandbags).
Picks up trash and debris and cleans round-a-bouts.
Performs routine safety inspections.
Transports materials, tools, and equipment to and from job sites.
Sets up and removes warning signs and traffic control devices.
Operates and services equipment such as skid steer, coring machine, pothole patch truck, and compactors.
Operates light vehicles and machinery.
Operates hand tools and power tools.
Assists with cleaning and upkeep of vehicles and maintains checklists.
Cleans work area.
Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work.
Reports to work for duty outside normally scheduled work hours in response to natural disasters, emergencies, or critical incidents as determined by City Administration.
