About The Position

The Public Works Director assumes overall administrative, technical, and professional responsibility for the day-to-day operations and physical facilities of the Village of South Chicago Heights. Operating under the general direction of the Village Administrator, the Director oversees streets, parks and grounds, water, sewer, and equipment maintenance. The role provides logistical and strategic planning for infrastructure projects, manages departmental budgets, coordinates municipal services, and supervises division personnel to help ensure the safety, efficiency, and functionality of the community.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least five years of direct work experience in water, sewer, and street maintenance operations.
Availability 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to respond to municipal emergencies or manage immediate emergency deployment of personnel.
Deep understanding of Village personnel procedures.
Ability to develop long-term infrastructure programs that improve community infrastructure while remaining aligned with fiscal limits.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing technical project reports, delivering financial briefings, and resolving public complaints.

Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Water Operator License.
Herbicide License.
