About The Position

The Crew Leader performs supervisory and skilled technical work in the maintenance and operations programs for the City of Osage Beach Public Works Department. The Crew Leader assists the Manager and Public Works Director in preparation and justification of the annual Department budget. The Crew Leader is responsible to and performs under the general supervision of their respective Division Manager and the Public Works Director. The Crew Leader is responsible for and exercises direct supervision over the staffing, performance, and training of all Technicians employed within the division of responsibility, in the City’s Public Works Department.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions with limited supervision.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate subordinate personnel effectively.
  • Ability to schedule and coordinate numerous divisional work assignments in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and written with employees, vendors and others as required.
  • Thorough knowledge of rules and regulations of city personnel policy and department procedure manuals.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction equipment, materials, and methods employed in street operations and maintenance.
  • Thorough knowledge of hazards and safety practices common in public works as well as federal and state regulations.
  • Some experience in Windows applications specifically Microsoft office products such as Outlook and Word.
  • High School graduate; some college preferred.
  • Four years’ experience similar to a Public Works III position.
  • Must possess a Class D certification or be able to obtain within one year for the Sewer Crew Leader.
  • Must be in good standing with the City of Osage Beach with no recent disciplinary action.
  • Must possess a valid Missouri Driver’s license CDL Class A with air brakes and no restrictions (except automatic transmission is acceptable).

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective leadership in planning and executing all assigned daily activities and operations, and aid in promoting a culture of excellence in the Department.
  • Execute the planning and scheduling of personnel and equipment to meet normal and emergency conditions, assuring that all daily and weekly schedules are met in a timely and accurate manner to maintain scheduled operations and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure proper personnel training is received by employees in the use of tools and equipment necessary for proper job performance and certification, scheduling off-site training as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with City-wide and departmental policies, maintaining safe work practices at all times.
  • Review in area of responsibility before approval by the Manager or Director, within the parameters of the City’s policy.
  • Assist the Manager and Public Works Director as needed in preparation and administration of annual departmental budgets, making recommendations to the Manager and Public Works Director regarding equipment purchases and personnel matters.
  • Maintain an open line of communications with other City Departments.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
