About The Position

Under general supervision, plans, coordinates, administers, and manages projects related to the identification, collection, and organization of the GIS mapping system. Assists with complex projects for water collection and distribution systems and City facilities.

Requirements

  • Water distribution operation, including piping, sources of supply, water quality, disinfection, water-related electricity, and the operational principles of pumps and motors.
  • The basic techniques, equipment and materials used in the construction, maintenance and repair of water distribution systems.
  • Principles and practices of water and wastewater systems.
  • Geography, street locations and water/wastewater system locations.
  • The proper use and care of common hand and power tools.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • TCEQ standards and policies for Water/Wastewater systems.
  • City organization, operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Federal, state, and local laws, statutes, rules, ordinances, codes, and regulations.
  • Operating water systems machinery in a safe and capable manner.
  • Obtaining and maintaining certification as a water and/or wastewater operator.
  • Use of handheld and office electronic equipment including GPS mapping tools and systems.
  • Associate Degree in Information Technology, Computer Programming, or equivalent and five (5) years’ experience in municipal water operations and one (1) year in asset management or equivalent.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • A Valid Class C Texas driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Administers the collection and organization of City GIS mapping system for infrastructure assets and equipment.
  • Manages multiple projects to identify and collect mapping data.
  • Organizes and collaborates with internal and external agencies to ensure accuracy of mapping data.
  • Assists with complex projects for storm, water, wastewater, and streets to collect data and ensure assets are documented correctly.
  • Performs storm, water, and sewer inspections on new infrastructure and assets that are installed for the City.
  • Collects and oversees the data entry for all installed, repaired, new projects, and existing infrastructure for GIS mapping system.
  • Coordinates with contractors and vendors to ensure that projects and equipment are taken care of according to contract or warranty.
  • Ensures that all water and sewer tests are done correctly and pass inspection.
  • Inputs and reviews data entered into the GIS system for accuracy and coordinates with outside agencies for data entry and corrections.
  • Manage and maintain the City's GIS databases, applications, and mapping platforms.
  • Establish GIS standards, procedures, and quality control processes.
  • Update computer records when new pipes or roads are built.
  • Use GPS devices outside to check the exact location of town equipment.
  • Create digital maps for town streets, water pipes, and parks.
  • Performs administrative duties as needed including submitting timesheets and payroll data, preparing reports for supervisors, and responding to information requests.
  • Has frequent contact with employees, citizens, local state, federal agencies, and other city departments.
  • Ability to arrive to work on time and must maintain a regular and reliable level of attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
