King County Library System (KCLS) is seeking multiple motivated and skilled Public Services Assistant Floaters (PSA) to support library services in the Cedar and Soundview Regions of KCLS. The Public Services Assistant (PSA) assists patrons with using technology, understanding library expectations, and provides information about library materials, equipment, programs, and services to help library users succeed through ideas, interactions, and information. Public Services Assistants address patron behavior concerns and frequently assist in de-escalating and resolving disruptions in the library space while prioritizing safety and continued access to the library. They apply the Patron Code of Conduct equitably with all patrons—including teens—while maintaining a welcoming, inclusive environment for community members. This includes many community members who are English-language learners as well as individuals experiencing challenges related to housing, mental health, or addiction. Successful candidates are quick learners, reliable, flexible and committed to building positive relationships with both coworkers and patrons from all backgrounds. They bring strong customer service skills, solid technology skills, are able to approach situations with proactive critical thinking, and have experience providing direct service to individuals with circumstances different than their own. Ideal candidates champion Intellectual Freedom, prioritize equity, and help bridge barriers related to language, technology, and access. Experience working with youth, seniors, refugees, and immigrants is highly desirable. Candidates who speak languages in addition to English—especially Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, and French—are encouraged to apply.
