About The Position

Perform various types of manual labor and operate equipment in all areas of public works or parks and recreation. May work with heavy equipment and other types of equipment to perform various functions as necessary. Respond to after hour emergencies and essential tasks as needed in all areas of maintenance. Note: At all times during the assigned on-call rotation, the on-call person must be available to respond on site within one hour of notification.

Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s license with tanker and air brake endorsements, or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Experience with manual labor and operation of trucks and light equipment.
  • Ability to: Physically perform essential functions and requirements of the position, including the ability to operate equipment/tools needed and work year-round in either an outdoor or indoor environment including extreme temperatures for extended lengths of time.
  • Understand and follow safety/OSHA regulations.
  • Work a varied schedule and work a 24-hour on-call status as scheduled, must be available to respond on site within one hour of notification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of maintenance and repair services on utilities. Jet and camera sanitary and storm sewer lines. Perform locates on city utility assets in a proficient manor. Sewer line, manhole and catch basins maintenance and repair. Install and remove water meters, or usage recording equipment. Operate and maintain fire hydrants. Perform water system repairs in normal and emergency situations.
  • Operate and maintain equipment in a proficient manner as it relates to maintaining the integrity of the city’s infrastructure systems. Report equipment problems to appropriate staff minimizing equipment downtime.
  • Perform a variety of maintenance and repair services on public streets, alleys, sidewalks, trails and right-of-way. Snow and ice removal (plowing, blowing, shoveling). Hauling of materials. Carry the “On Call” operations phone for the duration of 7 days on a rotating schedule assigned by the manager and respond to after hour emergencies when notified.
  • Perform a variety of maintenance services on equipment and procurement of parts. May be assigned to assist with duties in other divisions. Understand and attend to the needs of the public as it relates to customer service. Maintain a safe work environment at all times promoting the safety of the employees, co-workers, and the general public. Is fully licensed and capable of operating city owned equipment used in the performance of assigned duties. Function as crew lead on short term projects as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned.
