This position involves working in a 24-hour, 7-day a week operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The role requires receiving and prioritizing emergency and non-emergency calls, evaluating information, and dispatching police, fire, and emergency medical assistance. The technician will perform crisis intervention with distraught callers, use good judgment in stressful situations, and operate communications equipment. Full-time shift work is expected, including mandatory unscheduled overtime depending on staffing. The selection process includes an application, qualification review, driving record and criminal history check, a written examination, an oral board interview, a level 4 background investigation, a psychological evaluation, and a physical exam. Each step must be passed to advance.
