About The Position

The Technology Services Department (TS) of the City and County of Denver use state-of-the-art technologies and methodologies to deliver and improve the systems, applications, and operations to our customers. Technology Services supports the people, agencies, and ideas that make the City and County of Denver a world-class city. As a Public Service Radio Technician, you will work in the Electronic Engineering Bureau (EEB). The EEB maintains and manages numerous technology systems used by agencies throughout the City and County of Denver. EEB personnel are responsible for supporting Mobile Computer Terminals, Mobile and Portable radios, Speed Enforcement Radar, Radio System Infrastructure, and in building amplifiers. IT Communications Technicians are also responsible for the administration of various servers and network components in support of the Mobile Computer Terminals and the Radio System.

Requirements

  • At least five years of experience performing Information Technology communications maintenance, repair and installation
  • Experience with installations of communications equipment in service vehicles
  • Ability to manage and repair laptop and tablet computers
  • Systems Administration experience (knowledge of group policy options)
  • Ethernet router setup and configuration experience
  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Three (3) years’ experience performing Information Technology communications maintenance, repair and installation.
  • Must obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) clearance within the probationary period.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Land Mobile radios (LMR) and radio systems is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Install two-way radios in the city’s fleet of vehicles
  • Program Mobile and Portable two-way radios
  • Repair of electronic equipment to include two-way radios and MDT’s
  • Install various electronic equipment into the City’s fleet of vehicles (wiring, testing, maintenance, etc.)
  • Design, Plan, and configure portions of the Information Technology communications infrastructure, coordinates with the vendor for installation when needed
  • Respond to service desk escalations regarding communication infrastructure in person, remotely, or via phone
  • Diagnose and resolve complex problems
  • Engage other Information Technology resources when needed
  • Maintain electronic and communication systems associated with the delivery of voice, data and video over a system infrastructure
  • Perform limited communications server administration such as system monitoring, disaster recovery, account creation, and assigning access levels
  • Confer with user agencies to determine and document future communications requirements
  • Maintain inventory of communications infrastructure
  • Document work performed using MCM for all related services performed.
  • Oversee and provide instruction regarding Information Technology communications issues to lower classified Information Technology staff.
  • Understand and use of numerous types of test equipment to include RF Service Monitors, TDR and others.
