About The Position

This position provides security on Spelman College property for the protection of staff, faculty, students, visitors, and property of the institution. Conducts patrols and writes security related reports.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively to determine the proper course of action and maintain a high degree of self discipline.
• Under emergency conditions, react quickly and calmly.
• Ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and with respect for the rights of others.
• Ability to obtain accurate information through interview, interrogation, and observation.
• Ability to work cooperatively with the public and fellow employees.
• Good communication skills are required to express ideas clearly and obtain accurate information through interview, interrogation, and observations.
• Ability to understand and execute difficult oral and written instructions.
• Written communication skills are required to prepare comprehensive records and reports.
• Beginner level skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel) to prepare comprehensive records, reports and e-mails.
• Must be able to work on an as needed basis and rotate to various shifts as staffing needs change or as required for special details.
• Passing a pre-employment drug test.

Nice To Haves

• Two or more years of full-time experience in a position with a high degree of public contact or security capacity are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensures the safety and security of Spelman College staff, facilities, students, and visitors.
• Ensures that all campus rules and regulations are enforced.
• Enforces campus traffic laws, rules and regulations.
• Conducts investigations, collects evidence, and testifies in court.
• Conducts foot and/or motorized patrols of assigned areas.
• Writes incident reports and interviews victims and witnesses.
• Functions as communications dispatcher answering phones and short-wave radios and performs related clerical tasks.
