The Public Safety Officer provides security services with a customer-service approach, focusing on professionalism, fairness, and compassion even in challenging circumstances and in accordance with policies, procedures, and training. This role inspires confidence in patients, visitors, and team members by presenting a professional, approachable, and service-oriented appearance and demeanor. The officer is alert, observant, and ethical, complying with and enforcing all safety and security rules and regulations, and maintaining Department uniform and equipment in good repair. Responsibilities include performing routine patrols, identifying vulnerabilities, hazards, and fire conditions, managing patient valuables, and conducting contraband searches. The officer assists team members, patients, and visitors, ensures traffic control, monitors visitor conduct, and prevents, responds to, and investigates workplace violence. They serve as a primary resource for de-escalation, utilizing use of force when necessary, and perform key responsibilities to plan, prevent, practice, and respond to emergencies such as lost or abducted infants/children, fire, and active threats. The role requires immediate response to emergency and crisis situations, physical intervention in accordance with training, and investigation of incidents on Advocate Health property with timely and accurate reporting. The officer addresses and escalates complaints, performs liaison rounding duties to cultivate partnerships, and delivers security awareness education. They also act as a liaison with law enforcement and first responder agencies and coordinate prisoner patient guard duties. Maintaining current training standards in radio communications, verbal de-escalation, hemorrhage control, CPR, clinical restraints, and conducted energy weapon use is essential. Additionally, the officer assists with exterior traffic and crowd control, including parking enforcement and vehicular assistance.
