The Public Safety Officer provides security services with a customer-service approach, focusing on professionalism, fairness, and compassion even in challenging circumstances and in accordance with policies, procedures, and training. This role inspires confidence in patients, visitors, and team members by presenting a professional, approachable, and service-oriented appearance and demeanor. The officer is alert, observant, and ethical, complying with and enforcing all safety and security rules and regulations, and maintaining Department uniform and equipment in good repair. Responsibilities include performing routine patrols, assisting team members, patients, and visitors, ensuring traffic control, preventing and responding to workplace violence, and investigating incidents. The officer serves as a primary resource for de-escalation, utilizing use of force when necessary, and performs key responsibilities to plan, prevent, practice, and respond to emergencies. They respond immediately to emergency and crisis situations, physically intervening in accordance with training, and investigating incidents on Advocate Health property, completing timely and accurate reports. The role involves addressing and escalating complaints, performing liaison rounding duties, and delivering security awareness education. Additionally, the officer liaisons with law enforcement and first responder agencies, coordinates prisoner patient guard duties, and maintains current Department training standards in various areas including radio communications, de-escalation, and use of force equipment. Assistance with exterior traffic and crowd control, including parking enforcement and valet parking assist, is also a responsibility.
