About The Position

The Public Safety Officer (Security Officer) is responsible for patrolling hospital buildings and grounds to protect against fire, theft, illegal entry, infractions of safety regulations, and other irregularities. This role ensures the security and safety of hospital properties, employees, equipment, and records, as well as all physical aspects of the property including parking lots and motor vehicles. The officer will participate in investigations, maintain records, and prepare incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities. In the event of an emergency, the officer will take charge of policing to maintain order, safety, and to protect property. They will respond to emergency situations such as accidents, injuries, crimes, and safety hazards, providing assistance and summoning the proper authorities. The role also involves responding to inquiries, assisting hospital personnel, and providing assistance in restraining psychiatric patients as requested. Responsibilities include securing and unlocking offices and facilities, handling patient valuables and lost and found articles, maintaining required records and reports, and maintaining department equipment and supplies. Attendance at all education and inservice training programs is required, along with performing other work-related duties as requested/directed.

Requirements

Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
High school education or GED.
Good writing and verbal skills.
Ability to produce a concise, accurate, well written report.
Ability to relate to all age and ethnic groups in a courteous and professional manner.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
CPR (Heart Saver) certification within 4 months of new position.
CPI (Crisis Prevention) within 4 months of new position and must renew annually.
MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behaviors) Training within 4 months of hire and must attend MOAB training every 2 years.

Nice To Haves

1 year prior experience as a Healthcare Security Officer.
International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety basic certification program (“IAHSS”) preferred, but not required for employment.

Responsibilities

Patrol Hospital buildings and grounds, to protect against fire, theft, illegal entry, infractions of safety regulations and other irregularities.
Insure the security and safety of Hospital properties, employees, equipment and records, as well as, all physical aspects of the property including parking lots and motor vehicles.
Participate in investigations, maintain records and prepare incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities accurately and completely.
Investigate disturbances and in the event of emergency, take charge of policing to maintain order, safety and to protect property.
Respond to emergency situations such as accidents and injuries crimes and safety hazards.
Provide assistance and summon the proper authorities.
Respond to inquiries and assist Hospital personnel; provide assistance in restraining of psychiatric patients as requested.
Secure and unlock offices and facilities.
Secure patient valuables and lost and found articles.
Maintain required records and reports and files as required.
Maintain department equipment and supplies.
Attendance required at all education and inservice training programs.
Perform other work related duties as requested/directed.
