About The Position

Public Safety Officers serve as front line guardians to the Hartford HealthCare Community by providing customer service and ensuring our environments are safe, secure and more prepared for all of our patients, visitors, colleagues, clinicians and physicians. Public Safety Officers are equipped to prevent hazardous situations with their presence, respond and manage hazardous and emergency situations and provide support and resources when situations are successfully managed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year of relevant experience in service to the public or patients (public safety, corrections, first responder, military, mental health worker/technician or other similar healthcare patient facing role)
  • Valid driver’s license and an excellent driving record
  • Valid CT Guard Card or documentation of submission of CT Guard Card application with expectation to receive CT Guard Card within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Ability to exercise discretion and use good judgment to perform duties promptly and consistently with little direction based on the current circumstances.
  • Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, effectively communication information.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude in support of the organization’s mission, vision and values.
  • Focused on providing an exceptional experience to our patients, customers, staff, organizations, and internal and external partners.
  • Ability to analyze and solve a variety of difficult situations, problem events, emergencies.
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle tasks independently.
  • Basic to intermediate computer and technology skills, electronic tools and resources.

Responsibilities

  • Provides professional, customer service focused assistance to the HHC Community including patients, visitors, families, colleagues, clinicians, physicians, and the first responder community, among others.
  • Patrols and rounds facility to identify concerning activity, safety concerns or other problems.
  • May be assigned to fixed areas to check credentials, provide information or directions.
  • When assigned to mobile patrols, operates vehicles in a safe manner complying with all traffic and safety rules.
  • Provides a timely response, uses problem solving to take appropriate action to manage and investigate security incidents and hazards.
  • Maintain current knowledge of instructions, policies and procedures and performs work in accordance with these guidelines.
  • Shares information with other Public Safety Officers, maintains accurate activity logs and completes reports and documentation.
  • Partners with law enforcement and other first responders when circumstances warrant.
  • Informs supervisor or other leadership of unusual situations and request additional assistance as needed.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
