Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, the Public Safety Officer provides unarmed uniformed security/safety related services. These services support the department’s mission to provide high quality service and to protect persons and property from harm. The role may also involve duties of a bicycle patrol officer. Responsibilities include patrolling assigned areas of facilities and grounds on foot or in a motorized vehicle, investigating unusual occurrences, and reporting incidents of potential loss due to fire, theft, or vandalism, involving police when necessary. The officer responds to service calls, provides directions and escorts to patients and visitors, directs vehicle traffic, and ensures unauthorized vehicles are cleared from specific zones. Other duties involve issuing parking citations, physically restraining unruly individuals, administering control systems for valuables and equipment, ensuring premises security, and investigating and documenting various incidents with neatness, accuracy, and completeness.
