About The Position

The Lead Public Safety Officer role at Edward Hospital, working nights, involves demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served, including understanding their physical and psychological needs. In the absence of the Shift Supervisor, this role coordinates the work of assigned department staff, determines daily work post assignments, and assists the Shift Supervisor in training and orienting new Security Officers. The Lead Public Safety Officer monitors the performance of Security Officers, provides direction during the shift, and determines when incidents require written reports, preparing them as directed. This role also assists the Shift Supervisor in coordinating interviews for investigations and briefs the oncoming Lead Officer on reports and pertinent information. The position also includes performing the duties of a Public Safety Officer.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a customer-focused service-based organization
  • Valid Illinois Firearm Owner’s Identification Card is required within 90 days of start date in position
  • Current CPR certification issued either by American Heart Association or Red Cross within 90 days of start date in position
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • If the incumbent uses their personal vehicle, the incumbent must maintain automobile liability coverage as required by law and evidence of such coverage may be requested.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification within six months of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Fundamental understanding of computers, loss prevention and fire/security technology
  • A basic level of microcomputer software (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, etc.)
  • Attainment of certification by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) for their Basic Healthcare Security Officer training course within twelve months of start date in position.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.
  • In the absence of the Shift Supervisor, coordinates the work of assigned department staff and determines daily work post assignments.
  • Assists the Shift Supervisor to train and orient newly hired Security Officers on his/her shift.
  • Monitors Security Officers in performance of their duties and provides on-going direction of activities during the shift.
  • Determines when an incident requires written report, which report form to use and submits to Supervisor, Public Safety.
  • Prepares other written reports as directed.
  • Assists Shift Supervisor to coordinate interviews for investigations with employees and law enforcement agencies.
  • Briefs oncoming Lead Officer regarding any reports and pertinent information.
  • Performs duties of Public Safety Officer.
