About The Position

The Public Safety Officer II (PSO II) is a Regular Full-Time position located in Mascoutah, IL. This role involves ensuring the safety and security of the airport environment, including operations, firefighting, law enforcement, and security aspects. The PSO II will perform inspections, respond to emergencies, and assist with various airport operations to maintain compliance with regulations and identify/eliminate safety hazards.

Requirements

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Must be a citizen or lawful resident of the United States.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Illinois State motor vehicle operator’s license throughout the employee’s employment.
  • Must pass a physical fitness exam as may be required by applicable law and maintain the required fitness level and pass required tests throughout the employee’s employment.
  • Must pass a Transportation Security Agency (TSA) background check.
  • A felony Driving Under the Influence (DUI) conviction will be disqualifying.
  • Must have and maintain a current CPR and AED certification.
  • Must have capacity to acquire skill in the operation, use, and maintenance of firefighting equipment and in the fighting of fires.
  • Must have ability to maintain order among large groups of persons in emergencies.
  • Must possess situational awareness, alertness and skill in detecting and recognizing safety hazards.
  • Must have knowledge of established rescue methods and first aid treatment.
  • Must have ability to understand and carry out instructions.
  • Must meet FAA minimum Aircraft Rescue & Firefighting requirements within three months of start date.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Basic Security Practices.
  • Must have knowledge of first aid treatment.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in airport operations, firefighting law enforcement or airport security preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Make inspections of airport aprons, taxiways, runways, buildings, and other structures for the identification and elimination of safety hazards.
  • Perform tasks associated with the Air Operations Center (AOC) or airline/terminal operations as assigned.
  • Drive/operate fire apparatus, operate pumps, nozzles, or similar equipment, perform firefighting, rescue, and salvage operations at fires, accidents, or other emergencies.
  • Conduct inspections of Airport fuel farm and mobile refueler vehicles for compliance with current FAA and NFPA requirements.
  • Assist with fire drills.
  • Assist in controlling vehicular and pedestrian AOA entry including conducting vehicle inspections.
  • Perform duties associated with airline operations including terminal and other buildings and provide general security during passenger flight operations.
  • Assist in conducting the AOA driver's and security training programs.
  • Implement activities under the Wildlife Hazard Management Plan.
  • Assist in conducting airport inspections to including identifying, preventing and removing all hazards to aviation within the AOA to include the removal of FOD and runway condition reading during snow and ice events and report deficiencies and irregularities (e.g., Notice to Airman (NOTAMS)).
