About The Position

Ensures the safety and security of patients, staff and visitors. Duties include securing buildings and patients' valuables, responding to emergencies and calls regarding suspicious individuals and restraining combative and irate people. Responsible for patrolling building exteriors to include multi-level garage and surface parking areas by vehicle, on foot, and on a multi-geared bicycle.

Requirements

Equivalent to graduation from high school
Two (2) years of experience as a security officer/law enforcement official
Valid Class C Nevada Driver's License
Two (2) years recent and previous security experience in the military, law enforcement, hospital, or hotel industry
Knowledge of vicinity streets and roadways
Knowledge of laws and regulations such as illegal activity, safety and fire regulations and hazardous materials
Knowledge of safety precautions
Knowledge of department and hospital safety practices and procedures
Knowledge of patient's rights
Knowledge of infection control policies and practices
Knowledge of handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials
Knowledge of department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures
Skill in applying negotiation techniques and practices
Skill in restraining and calming combative and irate people
Skill in handling emergency situations such as bomb threats, hostage situations, gang violence and fires
Skill to ride and maintain safe operation of multi-geared bike and other bike equipment
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with all personnel contacted in the course of duties
Ability to use equipment and tools such as radios, battery chargers, handcuffs, restraints, pepper spray and cameras
Ability to communicate with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds under stressful conditions
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with all personnel contacted in the course of duties
Ability to efficient, effective and safe use of equipment
Mobility to work throughout the hospital in a variety of environments
Stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time
Dexterity and mobility to ride a multi-geared bicycle for extended periods of time
Vision to read printed materials and VDT screens
Hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person, over the telephone and over the radio
Strength and agility to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects and/or restrain
Must attend and pass the Las Vegas Metro Police Department Bicycle Training Course
