About The Position

The Public Safety Dispatcher serves as the primary communications link for the Department of Public Safety by receiving emergency and non-emergency calls for service, dispatching security officers and peace officers, monitoring alarms and surveillance systems, maintaining communication with field personnel, and coordinating responses with local emergency services when appropriate. This position requires sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to remain calm while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Work is performed in a communications center operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year of dispatch, public safety, security, emergency communications, customer service, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience in a public safety communications center.
  • Experience dispatching law enforcement, security, fire, or EMS personnel.
  • Experience using Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management Systems (RMS), and access control systems.
  • Familiarity with incident command principles and emergency management practices.
  • Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • CPR, Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), or other emergency communications certifications preferred.
