Under general supervision, this position answers emergency and non-emergency calls from citizens and agencies. The operator uses two-way radios to answer questions and dispatches appropriate law enforcement, fire, and/or emergency medical staff. This role involves researching and verifying information for public safety staff, as well as researching, entering, and disseminating information from multiple databases to emergency and non-emergency personnel. Key responsibilities include answering emergency 911 calls, evaluating the situation to determine the necessary response, and dispatching appropriate personnel. The operator will record essential information about the call and the actions taken. This role also requires conducting computer searches through local, State, and national databases, and providing information to officers and other public safety staff. Additionally, the operator will use teletype or FAX machines to send/request information, operate two-way radios for communication with Fire Department and law enforcement personnel, and use a computer terminal to enter/request law enforcement information. Routine phone calls requiring general information about the Police, Fire Departments, and the City of Joplin will also be handled. The position involves entering service calls into various systems including CAD, EMD, Rapid SOS, GEM, RMS, InCode, MULES, 3SI Security System, and Page Gate. The operator is expected to contribute effectively to the Police Department, communicate effectively with colleagues, and maintain satisfactory attendance.
