About The Position

Performs highly responsible and varied technical accounting duties for the Department of Public Safety such as fund accounting, budget, grants/contracts, and special project accounting. Maintains accounting records, journals, ledgers, statements and reports relating to tribal, federal, state and other grant/contract funded accounts.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Three (3) years of documented work experience in administrative management; fiscal or accounting experience; or a combination of education and work experience may be considered that demonstrates the necessary knowledge and skills required to perform the job duties.
  • Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Required to pass a pre-employment background check and criminal background check.
  • No misdemeanor or felony convictions.
  • Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Tribal Driver Permit with Defensive Driving Course certificate (to be updated every 2 years).
  • Minimum keyboarding and typing skill of 60 words per minute.
  • Required to maintain basic first aid and CPR certification.
  • Required to sign a code of conduct and understand sanctions for misconduct.

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Public Safety organizational chart and established chain of command.
  • Manages financial and reporting requirements for YN accounts, Federal or State Grants and/or Contracts, prepares fiscal narratives, quarterly and annual financial status reports, and account close outs.
  • Receives and reviews financial documents for accuracy and completion; assures accounting practices are consistent with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Prepares a variety of documents including not limited to purchase orders, journal entries, budget modifications, travel authorizations, payroll adjustments in a timely manner to automated accounting system.
  • Monitors financial documents, spreadsheets, ledgers and financial reports for accuracy and status of program funds.
  • Maintains accurate financial and administrative records in accordance with established policies and procedures for the purpose of a clear audit trail.
  • Applies standard office procedures, including accurate data entry, document tracking, records management and use of computerized office systems to support daily operations, such as D365 Accounting system, iSolved Time Management System, Microsoft Word, Excel, email systems, printers, and scanners.
  • Audits employee time & attendance records for leave balance accuracy.
  • Orders and processes necessary equipment and supplies at the Program Manager's request.
  • Greets and screens callers and visitors and directs them to appropriate staff or office.
  • Processes daily incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Performs detailed work assignments; conducts research for routine or special projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
