About The Position

This role is an integral part of the S&P Global Ratings Public Relations Team, managing media relations strategy for the Americas and reporting to the Head of Public Relations for Ratings. The position requires a dynamic individual who can act independently with senior support. While the focus is on external communications in the Americas, there's an opportunity to expand skills and involvement with the global Ratings team, including public relations counterparts in other regions, particularly EMEA. The ideal candidate is an excellent writer, storyteller, and news connoisseur who can build strong media relationships, operate in a fast-paced environment, and act as a trusted communications partner. The successful candidate will play a vital role in executing external communication strategies to grow and protect the reputation of S&P Global Ratings with media and other influencers. They will also be part of a wider global team, providing support where needed, and have the opportunity to work with other divisions and the enterprise Public Relations team.

Requirements

A proactive team player that can work well independently.
Ability to work in office on a hybrid basis.
Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in Communications, Journalism, English, Finance or related fields; or equivalent relevant experience.
4+ years of internship or professional work experience in a communications team in a financial or corporate environment.
Understanding of the global financial markets.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
Strong relationship-building skills.
Well versed in internal/external communications.
Detail-oriented and highly proficient in digital literacy.
Understanding of Microsoft Office suite is a must.
Must have indefinite right to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

Capital markets / financial markets / credit markets / regulated business preferred.
Experience in translating complex concepts to actionable, understandable plans and materials.
Strong relationships with top tier media.
Experience in managing multiple stakeholders, building strong relationships and networks and working collaboratively.
Project management skills helpful.
Knowledge of basic CMS and social media is a plus.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with team members and internal stakeholders to develop and execute public relations strategy aligned with S&P Global Ratings’ goals and S&P Global’s enterprise communications goals.
Work with spokespeople to proactively seek earned media placement, including op-eds, feature placement, and broadcast opportunities.
Build relationships with local and regional reporters through proactive outreach.
Demonstrate creativity and innovation in media engagement, identifying the best channels for messaging and developing new channels as needed.
Communicate with a range of stakeholders respectfully and thoughtfully, and address challenges.
Assist team colleagues with crisis communications to protect the division’s reputation, including drafting messaging and media training.
Partner with team colleagues to collate intelligence on media share of voice and other metrics.
Be comfortable working within a matrix environment and provide support to other team members when needed.
Work within a team across multiple time zones, sometimes under tight deadlines.
Follow directions, escalate challenges, and produce finished projects that meet or exceed expectations.
