About The Position

The University of Tulsa is seeking a Public Relations Coordinator to join their team. This role is responsible for managing and executing public relations activities to enhance the museum's visibility and reputation. The coordinator will work closely with various departments to align messaging and campaigns, and serve as a key point of contact for media and community outreach. This is an on-site position with occasional off-site work and requires flexibility for evenings and weekends to cover events.

Requirements

  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with digital tools: Microsoft Office, email marketing platforms, and content management systems.
  • Ability to approach and respond to sensitive topics and a variety of audiences with care and respect.
  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing or related field.
  • At least three years of experience in public information, media relations or communications.
  • Ability to remain seated or standing for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings and activities.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing and handling printed materials.
  • Visual acuity for reviewing digital and printed content.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of promotional materials, event signage or equipment (up to 20 pounds).
  • Ability to move throughout the museum and event spaces for media coordination and public engagement.
  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups and interacting in the community.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and/or WordPress.
  • Museum, nonprofit or cultural sector experience.
  • Cross-department collaboration: Work closely with marketing, curatorial, education and development teams to align messaging and campaigns.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and distribute approved news releases, media kits and statements.
  • Maintain and update media contact lists and databases (journalists, bloggers, influencers).
  • Coordinate interviews, press tours and media coverage opportunities.
  • Plan and execute conferences, exhibition opening promotions, tours and public events.
  • Manage media logistics, invitations and post-event follow-ups.
  • Write/edit newsletters, website copy and other communications, which may include interviews with artists, historians, staff, donors, community members, etc.
  • Support outreach to community groups, partners and media outlets.
  • Serve as an ambassador during public and professional events.
  • Execute email campaigns, including newsletters and program promotions.
  • Update website to ensure accurate, timely and engaging content aligned with museum priorities.
  • Work closely with Gilcrease leadership.
