About The Position

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Dechert’s US public relations efforts, supporting the team in maximizing media coverage in alignment with the firm’s business strategy. The PR Assistant will support the team in researching and identifying media opportunities, assisting with media tracking for the global team, coordinating interviews, preparing media briefs and coverage reports and sharing results internally. The ideal candidate is exceptionally organized, detail-oriented and tech savvy, with a high-energy, enthusiastic approach and a commitment to team collaboration. The PR Assistant will also have the opportunity to develop their PR skills and grow within the team.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or English.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a public relations, communications, or media relations role, preferably within a professional services environment; or four (4) semesters of exceptionally competitive internship experience in a relevant field.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the U.S. team to research, develop and pitch agreed-upon ideas to the media, including the routine distribution of thought leadership to targeted media contacts.
  • Apply media monitoring technologies and digital tools to contribute to the team’s global media monitoring efforts; maintain the team's media tracker with extraordinary attention to detail to accurately record media coverage, interviews, and opportunities.
  • Prepare a daily media clip coverage report, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and comprehensive coverage across all relevant outlets.
  • Draft press releases and other written materials as directed, making sure to demonstrate strong written communication skills, proper grammar and attention to detail.
  • Research and prepare thorough media briefing notes and background materials ahead of media interviews, as directed.
  • Coordinate the placement, submission and administrative aspects of byline articles.
  • Complete administrative tasks with a high degree of organization, including scheduling and coordinating media interviews, reserving rooms for press events and meetings, processing invoices and providing other administrative support as needed.
  • Maintain and update the firm’s target media lists.
  • Prepare media coverage reports utilizing monitoring tools and AI technologies, while ensuring data accuracy and clear presentation of results for internal distribution.
  • Assist with reviewing and coordinating article corrections as needed.
  • Conduct conflict checks in accordance with firm procedures.
  • Serve as a point of contact for routine PR requests and inquiries, seeking guidance from senior team members on more complex requests.
  • Apply knowledge and skills to complete additional projects as needed in support of team goals.

Benefits

  • The salary range for this position in New York is $55,000 to $65,000 annually. Actual compensation is commensurate with job related knowledge, skills, experience and location of the position.
