About The Position

Ducks Unlimited seeks a motivated professional to serve as their Public Policy Coordinator. The successful candidate will work with DU Volunteers and Staff to drive DU volunteers and supporter engagement with DU Public Policy issues and identify public funding opportunities for DU conservation programs. This role will be based out of Ducks Unlimited National Headquarters in Memphis, TN. Ducks Unlimited is the world’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving North America’s migratory birds and the habitats on which they depend to fulfill their annual life cycle needs. This position will play a critical role in the success of DU’s government affairs and policy efforts that directly contribute to achieving the organization’s habitat mission. Candidates must be highly organized and have the ability to manage several tasks at once without requiring extensive supervision. This position reports directly to DU’s Chief Policy Officer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 1-3 years of public policy, natural resources, campaign, grassroots, or administrative experience
  • Highly organized and attentive to detail
  • Strong conservation ethic
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship and team building skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience coordinating advocacy efforts
  • Knowledge of, and interest in, Ducks Unlimited, wildlife and sportsmen-related conservation issues
  • Experience in strategic messaging and coalition building
  • Familiarity with volunteer-driven, nonprofit organizations
  • Interest in outdoor conservation activities is also desired

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate targeted communications to DU stakeholders on relevant and timely policy issues
  • Manage DU Public Policy CRM to maximize relevant data collection and leverage analytical capabilities to drive strategic communications
  • Provide administrative support to DU Public Policy Committee
  • Support the governmental affairs team with conducting policy research for conservation program funding opportunities, and providing general support for all public policy activities.
  • Assist in the administration and execution of DU Policy communications plan.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for internal and external meetings, materials preparation, and tasks related to meeting follow-up.
  • Support governmental affairs team lobbying efforts through developing, implementing, and tracking policy-related information.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with key legislative and executive branch staff
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and coalition partners to further DU’s policy agenda
  • Coordinate fly-ins/site visits with volunteers, landowners, producers, and partners to better communicate and advocate for DU’s ag conservation and ecosystem priorities
  • Other duties as assigned
