About The Position

The Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Public Information Officer to lead strategic public relations, media outreach, and organizational communication initiatives. In this role, you will join an award-winning creative team to foster deep community trust, manage public awareness campaigns, and elevate LACOE’s presence at a countywide level. The Public Information Officer plans, develops, and implements strategic communications activities; advises upon and manages effective media, community, and public relations; maintains editorial and graphics standards; and coordinates and produces special public events.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree with major coursework in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, graphic design, cinematic arts/film/television productions, or other fields closely related to the job requirements of this classification, from an institution of higher learning accredited by a regional accrediting organization recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation.
  • Five years of experience in coordinating, developing, and implementing communications, media, and public relations activities for a communications, public relations, public affairs, or marketing department or agency.
  • Principles, theories, and practices of communications, marketing, public relations and related resources.
  • Principles and techniques of applying different media to promote strategic policies and priorities.
  • Principles and practices of planning and maintaining content on websites and social media.
  • Principles and methods of quantitative and qualitative research and analysis.
  • Procedures for crisis communications.
  • Methods and equipment used in photography and video production.
  • Digital accessibility standards including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • AI tools and ethical guidelines for AI in communications.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other applicable applications.
  • Fundamental concepts of employment laws, codes, and regulations, including EEO, FLSA, FMLA, and Cal/OSHA and applicable provisions of collective bargaining agreements.
