About The Position

Under general supervision, maintains positive relations between the public and the City, communications with the media, coordinates City events and supports multiple departments in public information activities and outreach, and performs related duties as assigned. We are seeking an exceptional speechwriter and copywriter who can transform complex ideas into compelling stories. The ideal candidate is a strategic storyteller with exemplary writing skills, capable of adapting to a variety of audiences, platforms and objectives. This individual will develop speeches and presentations for City leadership, executive communications, marketing copy and messaging that aligns with the City's brand.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public relations, marketing, journalism, communications, or closely related field
  • Five (5) years of professional level experience in public relations, marketing, journalism, communications, or a closely related field
  • Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check
  • Must complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every year
  • Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment

  • Writing Sample: Provide authentic writing samples that demonstrate your speech writing experience and your public relations expertise, including materials such as executive speeches, thought leadership articles, executive communications, marketing or brand copy, short-form content or similar work samples.
