About The Position

Under general supervision, lead, mentor, and guide youth in adapting to a professional work environment. The Program Specialist is a full-time position responsible for supporting the implementation of the Community Youth Development (CYD) Program. This role focuses primarily on data entry, youth enrollment, outreach and recruitment, participant file management, and quality assurance to ensure timely and accurate reporting within the PEIRS system. The Program Specialist plays a key role in maintaining program compliance, supporting youth-serving activities, and ensuring CYD services remain accessible, organized, and responsive to community needs. This position supports Austin Public Health’s Mission and Core Purpose identified in the Austin Public Health Strategic Plan.

Requirements

  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Experience may substitute for education up to four years
  • Valid Texas Class C Drivers License
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn grounds keeping processes, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of equipment and vehicles used in grounds services.
  • Skill in directing and assigning work to others.
  • Oral and written communication skills necessary for providing instruction and feedback.
  • Ability to mentor, train and guide youth.
  • Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience implementing youth leadership programming
  • Experience mentoring youth in out of school time positive youth development activities
  • Familiarity with social media tools for organizing and advocacy (i.e. Remind App, Facebook, and Instagram).
  • Bilingual preferred but not required
  • Available to work evenings and weekends and accommodate a flexible schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and monitor work performed by youth work crews.
  • Insure youth crews perform work in accordance with all safety rules.
  • Provide training and document actions taken for youth work crews.
  • Drive vehicles and insure all vehicles have safety/emergency supplies as required.
  • Mentor, guide, and counsel youth in adapting to a professional work environment.
  • Compile data/information for reports.
  • Research information as requested and/or needed.
  • Write informational reports.
  • Answer citizen questions and provide assistance.
  • May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.
  • Data entry, youth enrollment, outreach and recruitment, participant file management, and quality assurance to ensure timely and accurate reporting within the PEIRS system.
  • Maintain program compliance, supporting youth-serving activities, and ensuring CYD services remain accessible, organized, and responsive to community needs.
