About The Position

This position is expected to last through June 30, 2027 with potential continued funding thereafter. The Public Health Specialist I will serve as a member of the Bureau of Occupational Health and Injury Prevention (BOHIP) team, supporting the improvement of public health. Responsibilities include maintaining and updating Heavy Metals Registry records; conducting structured interviews to collect information related to heavy metal exposures; communicating with registry participants, healthcare providers, and laboratories; gathering scientific and public health reference materials to support program activities; and assisting with the identification, tracking, and documentation of occupational fatalities using public information sources and established databases.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in the sciences (chemistry, biology, biochemistry, physics, environmental science, earth science), health science, public health or a related field; OR an associate degree in a related field and two years of experience in public health, human services, or health related program/organization; OR four years of such experience.
  • Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
  • The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in the sciences (chemistry, biology, biochemistry, physics, environmental science, earth science), health science, public health or a related field.
  • Experience with structured questionnaire administration.
  • Demonstrated, strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in the retrieval of health data from specialized databases to identify at-risk individuals/groups and determine levels of intervention needed for different analytes.
  • Experience in creating injury prevention materials for vulnerable individuals and high-risk occupations and industry sectors.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Zotero.
