Requirements

Knowledge of chemistry, chemical terminology, and related concepts in biology, physics and mathematics.
Knowledge of conversion factors.
Knowledge of general chemical laboratory methods, procedures, equipment, and associated technology.
Knowledge of chemical incompatibilities.
Knowledge of how the quality assurance team interacts with analytical chemistry.
Knowledge of how quality controls are used to ensure accuracy and precision are within acceptable limits.
Knowledge of ethical boundaries with regards to laboratory processes.
Knowledge of general laboratory safety protocols involving both chemical and biological substances.
Knowledge of Performance Management (PM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies.
Skill in chemical laboratory testing and interpretation.
Skill in using and maintaining laboratory instrumentation and sample prep equipment.
Skill in use of analytical balances.
Skill in pipetting technique.
Skill in maintaining accuracy and precision in lab work.
Skill in applying safety precautions and procedures in everyday work to minimize hazards to self and others.
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Ability to maintain accurate laboratory notes.
Ability to write technical reports.
Ability to use laboratory and support software, adhere to existing quality assurance quality control protocols, maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in a laboratory science to include 12 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or related field from a nationally accredited college or university. A foreign degree must be previously determined to be equivalent by a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
Driver's License.

Responsibilities

Performs inorganic and organic laboratory analyses on clinical (human blood, serum, urine), water, and food samples using complex analytical instrumentation of one or more of the following platforms: ICP-QQQ, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, GC-QQQ, and/or LC-HRMS.
Position supports work under the ADHS PHEP grant as well as supporting testing in the ADHS Chemical Emergency Response and Environmental Emergency Response Programs.
All analytical works performed in adherence to the CLIA accreditation and ADHS Laboratory QA/QC protocols.
Bench work includes samples prep, sample analysis and the interpretation of test results.
Additional work includes LIMS data entry, the ordering of supplies/consumables, instrument maintenance, instrument/method troubleshooting, waste disposal, and general adherence to Good Laboratory Practices.
Works directly with chemicals and common laboratory hazards (gases, cryogenic sample prep) as well as analytical processes that may involve microwave digestion and/or solvent extraction.
Performs method development and subsequent validations as needed.
Position may be required to travel in support of the PHEP grant.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Performs instrument analysis on 1 or more of the platforms ICP-MS, LC-MS, & GC-MS.
Primary and secondary data review of analytical data generated in support of the program.
Performs instrument maintenance/troubleshooting on 1 or more of the platforms ICP-MS, LC-MS, & GC/MS.
Processing of a sample to a matrix that is amenable to the analytical instrument performing the measurement.
Orders and accepts program supplies for work unit as needed.
Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) data entry and sample accessioning.
Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
