About The Position

Provide comprehensive professional public health nursing services in a variety of office, clinic, and community settings. The Public Health Nurse I is an entry-level position responsible for performing routine tasks under close supervision, with assignments generally limited in scope. The Public Health Nurse II is a fully competent level where incumbents independently perform the full range of public health nursing services for complex client cases.

Requirements

Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in nursing from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing.
Public Health Nurse I: Less than one year of nursing experience.
Public Health Nurse II: Two years of public health nursing experience.
BSN required (for PHN II).
Valid driver’s license.
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Colorado.
CPR certification.
Current credentials including continuing and pertinent education in the field of public health nursing.
Ability to move around diverse healthcare settings, including clinics, homes, and community centers, to provide nursing services.
Capable of assisting patients with mobility, which may involve lifting and positioning individuals with physical limitations, up to 45 pounds unassisted.
Able to bend, stoop, and kneel when assessing patients, providing treatments, or accessing medical supplies.
Proficient in handling medical equipment, administering medications, and performing procedures that require precision and dexterity.
Prepared for physical contact when conducting patient assessments, administering injections, or providing hands-on care.
Sufficient visual acuity for assessing patient conditions, reading medical records, and administering medications accurately.
Hearing and auditory perception to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Ability to sit during documentation and planning sessions, often in clinical settings or offices.
Display precise fine motor skills when performing medical procedures, documenting patient information, and using medical equipment.
Computer and relevant software applications, spreadsheets, calendars, and word processing.
Calculators, telephone systems, and mobile phones.
Medical equipment such as vaccine equipment, physical assessment tools, personal protection equipment, and emergency communication devices.
Pre-employment background check including Criminal Background Check, Education Verification, Employment Verification, and Motor Vehicle Record.

Responsibilities

Under close supervision, performs routine public health nursing services for the public in offices, outlying clinics, and community settings (PHN I).
Participates in Garfield County Public Health activities requiring RN participation and community outreach (PHN I).
Participates in continuing education offerings (PHN I).
Reviews all work products to ensure highest level of quality (PHN I).
Performs emergency response roles, as requested (PHN I & II).
Performs comprehensive public health nursing services for the public in offices, outlying clinics, and community settings (PHN II).
Represents the department as a health resource person, in community health organizations, programs and activities (PHN II).
Contributes to preceptorship of professional nursing students as assigned (PHN II).
Participates in group teaching to client and community groups (PHN II).
May assist with ordering and maintaining supplies necessary for program area (PHN II).
Other duties as assigned (PHN II).
