About The Position

The Public Health Officer serves as Mono County's chief medical authority, providing medical leadership and oversight for the Public Health Division. Reporting to the Director of Health and Human Services, the position guides public health policy, oversees disease prevention efforts, coordinates emergency public health response activities, and serves as the County's trusted medical expert. This position offers the opportunity to improve the health and well-being of rural communities through collaboration, innovation, and evidence-based public health practice.

Requirements

  • Licensed physician.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid unrestricted Physician’s and Surgeon’s license issued by the California Medical Board or the prerequisites and ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
  • Possession of a driver’s license valid in California.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical leadership and oversight for the Public Health Division.

  • Improve community health outcomes.
  • Translate complex medical and scientific information into clear, actionable guidance for audiences with varying levels of technical knowledge.
