About The Position

Under direction, provides direct nursing services in a clinical, geographic or programmatic area. This position is in the Nurse Family Partnership program of the Health Department located in Clinton Twp. It is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) position with a starting time of 8:30 a.m. The role is classified as Non-Exempt, with overtime pursuant to the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The employment relationship is based on just cause and subject to a probationary period.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing
  • Be licensed by the Michigan Board of Nursing to practice as a Registered Nurse, or be in the process of securing Michigan licensure
  • Minimum of one (1) year of professional nursing experience
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated decision-making ability and problem solving skills
  • Ability to communicate highly complex information to people with varying levels of knowledge
  • Effectively speak, write and understand the English language
  • Ability to adapt behavior or work methods in response to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected situations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other professionals, clients and the public
  • Ability to conduct oneself with tact and courtesy
  • Balancing on even or uneven surfaces/ground
  • Bending (forward or backward bending at the waist)
  • Grasping, gripping, holding, clasping with fingers or hands
  • Manual Dexterity (fine finger movements i.e., keyboard operating, writing)
  • Lift/Carry/Move objects from one level/position to another
  • Sitting in a seated position during the task performance
  • Standing in an upright position without movement
  • Walking considerable distances in the facility on multiple surfaces

Nice To Haves

  • Previous public health or community health nursing experience is preferred
  • Speak and understand a language other than English (Bosnian, Serbian, Croatian) is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct nursing care in an assigned area, using appropriate authorized nursing skills.
  • Teaches, consults and acts as public health resource person to individuals, families, community groups and other health care professionals.
  • Documents appropriate data, activities and outcomes in the client records, utilizing the required recording format.
  • Works with clients to assess their needs, provide information or assistance and resolve problems.
  • Assists in coordinating the activities of an assigned clinic and/or program area.
  • Participates on selected agency committees as directed.
  • Participates in the orientation of staff.
  • Generates, evaluates and chooses the best alternative in order to make a determination, draw conclusions or solve a problem.
  • Operates an automobile to perform assigned job functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
