About The Position
The Virginia Department of Health is seeking a Public Health Nurse for the Carroll County Health Department in the Mount Rogers Health District. The primary focus is case management for pregnant women and infants through home visitation, and assessment of individuals who need long-term services and support. The nurse will provide education, coordinate care, and collaborate with partner organizations to strengthen community health. The position also includes administering immunizations and providing occasional clinical services. Applicants may be required to demonstrate skills and abilities necessary for satisfactory performance through a simulated exercise. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results of required background and other applicable checks.
Requirements
- Communicate verbally and in writing; analyze problems and situations; suggest solutions; demonstrate leadership; follow directions; and establish priorities.
- Demonstrate skills in physical examination, health assessment, interviewing, and counseling techniques.
- Be able to function independently, prioritize and organize work, solve problems, adapt to change, work as a team member, and relate to the public.
- Have knowledge of public health concepts, public health nursing principles, epidemiology, immunizations, basic nursing science, medical terminology, and case management.
- Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR.
- May be required to travel and work some weekends and/or evening hours.
Nice To Haves
- Additional study in health promotion or public health.
- Experience in a public health setting or a setting related to disease prevention and health promotion.
