About The Position

Kern County employees provide opportunities that are purposeful to our community. Every employee and every action contributes to the improvement and strengthening of our county. This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made at the Department of Public Health. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission. Candidates are encouraged to indicate acceptable geographical locations in which they would accept employment on their application form.

Requirements

  • Level I: Valid Public Health Nurse Certificate issued by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Registered Nursing AND valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse License issued by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Registered Nursing OR A valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse license issued by the State of California, Department Consumer Affairs, Board of Registered Nursing and possession of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university with coursework in public health or community health and application has been submitted to the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Registered Nursing for a Public Health Nurse Certificate.
  • Level II: Possession of a valid Public Health Nurse Certificate issued by the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Registered Nursing AND two (2) years of public health and/or community health nursing experience OR three (3) years of nursing experience may be substituted for the two (2) years of public health and/or community health nursing experience.
  • Possession of a valid and unrestricted California Registered Nurse license issued by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Possess and maintain a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card.
  • Failure to maintain a valid Registered Nurse License issued by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Registered Nursing will result in termination.
  • Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Driver's License.
  • Applicants who wish to be considered for bilingual employment must submit a bilingual certificate issued by the Kern County Human Resources Division or its authorized agent, Bakersfield College.
  • Applicants must submit a bilingual (English/Spanish) certificate before the final filing deadline.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework in public health or community health (for Level I if applying with RN license and Bachelor's Degree).
