About The Position

The City of Waco is seeking a caring and effective Public Health Licensed Vocational Nurse to provide patient care, intervention, and outreach services. This role will work with Public Health District (PHD) clients and McLennan County Residents.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • LVN – Licensed Vocational Nurse by the Texas Board of Nursing
  • BLS Certification

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care, intervention, and outreach services to educate and encourage Public Health District (PHD) clients and McLennan County Residents to complete actions required to prevent and mitigate communicable disease.
  • Performs routine patient care for PHD clinic patients; observes and assesses patients' conditions and behavior; performs vaccination administration and a variety of medical tests; reviews and maintains patients' records and documents through use of available documentation system and the Texas Immunization Registry; provides information, counseling, and education according to specific program and physician guidelines.
  • Provides offsite vaccine clinics, community outreach and assistance programs; provides health education to clients and their families, social contacts, and the community; documents outreach, intervention, and client service delivery.
  • Serve as the Perinatal Hep B Coordinator by providing case management to pregnant individuals with hepatitis B, ensuring appropriate testing, education, vaccination, and follow-up for mothers and infants to prevent perinatal transmission.
  • Serves as primary back-up to the Immunizations Clinic Health Office Specialist.
  • Manages inventory of vaccines, supplies, and equipment.
  • Operates a personal or City vehicle to travel to clinics, community sites, outreach locations, and partner agencies to provide direct client care for PHD clients throughout Waco-McLennan County.
  • May complete investigations, interventions, may require blood draws for communicable disease testing, interviews, and assessments of PHD patients; provides ongoing case management services, explains PHD programs and links patients to other social service and health care agencies; motivates clients to take proper actions; evaluates client progress and lab tests and provides counseling support.
  • May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
