About The Position

This is a temporary position with the Department of Health and Human Services, located in Durham County, NC. The role involves providing HR management foundation, responsible oversight, and creative solutions through a collaborative approach to maximize employee potential. Temporary employees may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High-Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) if they work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week. Permanent and time-limited NC State Government employees must separate from their current position to work in a temporary role. All temporary employees are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time. Individuals hired into a temporary State job must be fully qualified. OSHR supports the Governor's Job Ready initiative and seeks to expand temporary skill sets for future employment opportunities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Epidemiology or closely related health field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Collect, analyze and interpret statistical data, and prepare epidemiologic reports.
  • Provide epidemiological data for consultation and assist in the development and coordination of plans to reduce the risk of negative health outcomes including death.
  • Assist county health departments in formulating strategies to manage problems, conducting varied literature reviews and implementing evidence-based interventions.
  • Specialize in a number of areas including infectious disease, chronic disease, injury, environmental/occupational epidemiology, health care evaluation, cancer, reproductive health, cardiovascular disease or human genetics.
  • Develop policies and procedures for new and existing disease control or other public health prevention programs on a limited basis or scope.
  • Training, technical assistance and consultation regarding epidemiology and control of diseases or other health outcomes.
  • Serve as a technical expert in assigned area.
