About The Position

The Public Health Educator II is assigned to the Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch (OEEB), within the Epidemiology Section, Division of Public Health, Department of Health and Human Services. This position is funded by the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry and focuses on eliminating and reducing adverse health effects from exposure to environmental contaminants, primarily at hazardous waste sites in North Carolina. The role involves leading the development and implementation of community-based health education programs, assessing needs, planning and coordinating programs, evaluating their effectiveness, and serving as a resource person. The Public Health Educator II also builds partnerships, encourages community involvement, and supports grant operations. Key duties include assessing needs, planning and implementing targeted health education programs, developing educational materials, coordinating community meetings, leading the 'Choose Safe Places for Early Care and Education' initiative, supporting grant writing and reporting, conducting community assessments, serving as a subject matter expert, and participating in public health responses.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Public Health Education or in Public Health with a major in public health education from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in public health education; or Bachelor’s degree with a major in health education from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience in public health education OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assess individual, organizational, and community needs related to environmental health education.

  • Participate in special projects and public health responses as needed to support statewide environmental health initiatives.
