About The Position

Halton Women’s Place is seeking a Public Educator to develop, coordinate, and facilitate activities and programs that educate children, youth, the public, and community partners about woman abuse, supporting the mission and objectives of Halton Women’s Place. This position is dedicated to the Male EngageMENt initiative, focusing on designing and facilitating programs for boys, men, fathers, coaches, educators, and male allies in violence prevention. The role involves leading discussions on healthy masculinity, healthy relationships, gender-based violence prevention, bystander intervention, and allyship, fostering engagement with male-identifying audiences throughout the Halton Region. The Public Educator will also be involved in school-based programs, Male Committee work, and other educational initiatives aimed at engaging men and boys as allies in ending gender-based violence.

Requirements

Experience working in the field of women’s issues, social justice issues, a keen interest in ending violence against women and women’s issues.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
Knowledge of public education methods and procedures.
Proven skills and experience in curriculum design, development, delivery and evaluation, varied learner developmental levels; workshop and session plan development and evaluation techniques are essential.
Proven skills in facilitating workshops and education sessions with children and youth.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word for Windows, PowerPoint, Excel and other computer communication and design programs is a necessity.
Proficiency using social media as a supplement to delivery of education.
An understanding of the dynamics and effects of abuse on women and children.
Experience working with adults as an educator and trainer, children and youth as an educator, and with the public.
Experience working in a fast-paced and changeable environment.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Must be comfortable presenting virtually and be efficient in Google Meets, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.
Clear Police Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector, is required to secure and maintain employment.
TB test one and two is required to secure and maintain employment.
Must have daily access to a reliable personal vehicle and be insured as the vehicle’s primary driver with a minimum of $2 million 3rd party liability coverage (proof of insurance will be required).

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in Education or equivalent is an asset.
Experience facilitating discussions or educational programming with boys, men, fathers, coaches, educators, or male ally groups is considered a strong asset.
Demonstrated ability to engage boys and men in conversations about healthy masculinity, respectful relationships, gender equality, or violence prevention is highly desirable.
Youth advisory/leadership program facilitation is a definite asset.
A working knowledge of community service groups and organizations is preferred, and community and media relations knowledge is an asset.

Responsibilities

Collaborate to design and develop curriculum for the Halton Women’s Place Public Education Program at the direction of the Supervisor, Community Engagement and Education.
Co-ordinate and facilitate classroom-based delivery of public education activities and including presentations, workshops and displays within the Region of Halton, and make appropriate referrals for requests beyond the mandate and scope of the Public Education Program.
Create relationships with the educational community and parents to enable the delivery of school-based programs.
Foster positive relationships with social service organizations, community service clubs, and professional associations.
Update existing materials and obtain current resources.
Explore and implement various forms of free program promotion- i.e. marketing, outreach.
Respond to inquiries and provide the resources needed to community members.
Provide program reports to the Supervisor, Community Engagement and Education, outlining program activities, trends and gaps in service.
Attend community events, conferences, and forums as representatives of Halton Women’s Place and be able to speak to the programs and services provided by Halton Women’s Place.
Attend and participate in staff meetings, Annual General Meeting, and internal/external committee meetings as required.
Help facilitate pre-planned children’s/youth programming for in-shelter child and youth clients when directed to do so.
Deliver our Male EngageMENt presentations to classrooms across Halton region.
Lead educational workshops and discussions with boys, men, fathers, coaches, educators, and male allies on topics including healthy masculinity, healthy relationships, consent, bystander intervention, and gender-based violence prevention.
Collaborate to create male-centered initiatives to educate and engage boys and men across Halton on healthy relationships and healthy masculinity.
Facilitate the CBIM (Coaching Boys Into Men) program.
Co-facilitate parent and dad groups through our community partners.
Develop and maintain relationships with schools, sports organizations, workplaces, community groups, and other partners to expand engagement with boys, men, and male allies throughout Halton Region.
Recruit, engage, and support male allies and community champions who are committed to advancing violence prevention initiatives.
Perform other duties as assigned.
