About The Position

This Public Health Educator position at Goodhue County Health & Human Services will focus on building a youth-led, school-based substance use prevention program. The role, also referred to as Youth Prevention Specialist, involves partnering with Red Wing High School and Tower View Alternative School to recruit and train a paid student team. This full-time position is grant-funded through December 2028, with potential for extension or expansion based on future funding. The goal is to promote, strengthen, and protect the health of individuals, families, and communities in Goodhue County.

Requirements

Baccalaureate in community health, health education, or related field and one year of experience working with community-based initiatives or collaboration with multiple groups in the area of health prevention/promotion.
Graduate degree in community health, public health, or related field may substitute for experience.
Must have a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

Experience (paid or unpaid) leading, teaching, and/or managing programs for youth strongly preferred.
Experience designing, developing, delivering, and/or evaluating educational programs for youth preferred.

Responsibilities

Recruit a team of students in grades 8-12 to lead substance use prevention work.
Partner with schools to empower and support youth to design, deliver, and evaluate prevention activities and outreach.
Collaborate with Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) staff on prevention, screenings and supportive interventions.
Engage youth most impacted by substance-use through relationship building with trusted messengers.
Guide youth in evidence-based approaches and peer/community education efforts.
Contribute to grant requirements through data collection, documentation, and reporting.
