About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Public Affairs, the Public Affairs & Digital Communications Manager extends the work of the Director by leading the execution of digital media and creative communications for the office. This role combines strategic planning with hands-on execution and is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating communications, public information, and community engagement initiatives. The Manager collaborates closely with colleagues across the office and external partners to support engagement opportunities that connect the community to the office’s work. The position supports the Outreach Coordinator through event participation and related communications that extend engagement beyond individual events to reach broader and more diverse audiences. The position also supports continuity of media operations, serves in a spokesperson-support capacity when needed, and assists with public-facing communications when the Director is unavailable. This role plays a key part in translating complex public service and criminal justice work into accessible, engaging, and equitable communications. Through digital platforms and community engagement, the position helps ensure messaging, programs, and activities align with the mission and goals of the office and contribute to transparency, public understanding, and trust in the criminal justice system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, or a related field
  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in communications, journalism, media, or digital content
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
  • Video production and editing experience
  • Experience managing social media for an organization or public-facing entity
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • High level of organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to travel county-wide using a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed); valid driver’s license required

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Communications, Public Information & Campaign Development Develop and execute communications and public information initiatives aligned with office priorities and community needs
  • Identify and implement proactive storytelling opportunities and support development of communications strategies, branding, and public engagement approaches
  • Conduct research on communications best practices and support internal communications initiatives and special projects
  • Community Engagement Support & Public Information Support and participate in community engagement efforts, including presentations, public events, and outreach initiatives
  • Collaborate with the Outreach Coordinator and external partners to support engagement and recruitment strategies and represent the office at public meetings and events
  • Gather and translate community feedback into communication strategies and develop public-facing materials that support education and engagement
  • Social Media & Digital Presence Lead social media strategy and manage content creation, scheduling, monitoring, and engagement across platforms
  • Monitor digital conversations to identify trends and develop appropriate responses in coordination with leadership
  • Develop and implement digital campaigns tied to outreach, prevention, and public education initiatives
  • Analyze performance metrics and ensure accessibility and inclusive communication practices
  • Ensure accessibility standards and inclusive communication practices are incorporated into digital content
  • Multimedia & Content Creation Film, edit, and produce video content and create graphics and other multimedia assets
  • Support photography, visual storytelling, and creative asset management, and maintain website and digital content
  • Develop training materials and public education content, including videos, guides, and presentations
  • Media & Public Affairs Support Build and maintain relationships with media and community partners
  • Draft press materials, talking points, and public-facing communications and provide spokesperson support as needed
  • Document media activities, support media tracking, and assist with critical incident communications
  • Provide coverage and continuity for the Director of Public Affairs
